Honda of Canada Manufacturing (HCM) has commenced production of the 2025 Honda Civic Hybrid sedan at its Alliston, Ontario plant. This marks the first time the Civic Hybrid is being built in Canada, underscoring Honda's commitment to advancing its electrification strategy. Anticipated to constitute approximately 60% of Civic sales in Canada, the Civic Hybrid production follows a significant investment to prepare HCM as the lead plant for CR-V and Civic Hybrid production in North America.
Jean Marc Leclerc, President and CEO of Honda Canada Inc., highlighted Honda's strategic shift towards electrification, aiming for battery-electric and fuel cell electric vehicles to represent 100% of North American sales by 2040. This transition has safeguarded thousands of jobs in Alliston and across Honda's Canadian supplier network, supported by enhanced training and sustainability initiatives.
Bobbi Curran, Vice President of Honda of Canada Mfg., emphasized the significance of hybrid production in advancing Honda's electrification goals and its positive impact on the local community of Alliston.
Looking ahead, Honda plans to establish a comprehensive EV value chain in Canada, including new facilities alongside existing operations in Alliston. This initiative aims to bolster Honda's EV production capabilities starting in 2028, with projections for significant job creation and economic impact across Ontario.
